About the Washington Basketball

Washington Basketball Tickets

In the history of West Coast basketball, the Washington Huskies might be one of the most forgotten and overlooked programs. Success has been intermittent for the Huskies in recent years, occasionally making cheap Washington basketball tickets widely available. However, the program has a proud history and high hopes for the future. With some positive signs in recent years, there is hope for the Huskies, which makes last-minute Washington basketball tickets a hot commodity in the Pacific Northwest.

Sir Edmundson

During the first half of the 20th century, UW was one of the top basketball powerhouses on the West Coast behind head coach Hec Edmundson, who coached the Huskies from 1920 to 1947. During that time, UW won at least a share of the Pacific Coast Conference title 12 times. Edmundson’s laid the foundation for his successors Art McLarney and Tippy Dye, who kept the Huskies at the forefront of college basketball through their 1953 Final Four appearance.

Finding a Way Back

Unfortunately for the Huskies, the second half of the 20th century wasn’t so kind to them. Outside of a stretch of three straight NCAA Tournament berths in the mid-1980s, UW failed to gain much traction. It wasn’t until Lorenzo Romar arrived in 2002 that UW found a coach that could create sustained success. From 2005 to 2012, Romar led the Huskies to two regular-season and three conference tournament titles, as well as five NCAA Tournament appearances and three trips to the Sweet 16.

Hop Into Action

After things fizzled with Romar, UW found its new head coach in 2017 in longtime Syracuse assistant Mike Hopkins. Originally from the West Coast, Hopkins brought the Huskies instant excitement and passion for basketball. In just his second season as the UW head coach, Hopkins led the Huskies to a Pac-12 regular-season title and snapped the program’s eight-year NCAA Tournament drought, setting the stage for a bright future.
