Few college basketball programs have risen to prominence as quickly as the Florida Gators. Late Start

The amazing thing about Florida basketball is that the school didn’t even hire a full-time head coach until 1960. Norm Sloan got the gig and got the Gators on the right path before leaving in 1966. The Gators made their first trip to the Final Four in 1994 under head coach Lon Kruger. But it was the arrival of a young coach named Billy Donovan in 1996 that changed the fortunes of Florida basketball forever. In his third season at the helm, Donovan led the Gators to the Sweet 16. Two Titles

The Florida basketball program peaked when it won back-to-back national championships in 2006 and 2007. In an era when the top players leave school early, Donovan got all of his underclassmen to return to school to defend their title and become the first team in 15 years to repeat as national champions. Donovan was able to keep things going after that, taking the Gators to the Elite Eight in four straight seasons from 2011 to 2014, culminating in one more Final Four trip before passing the torch to Mike White in 2015 after building one of the most successful programs in the country.
