About the Duke Football

Duke Football Tickets

When you think about Duke, it’s hard not to think about basketball. But that doesn’t mean there are cheap Duke football tickets just sitting around. Admittedly, the Blue Devils don’t have a long history of dominating on the gridiron. But the program is no longer the doormat it was once upon a time. Nowadays, landing last-minute Duke football tickets is an invitation to see a skilled team that isn’t afraid to play the best.

Did You Know?

Most people don’t realize that Duke was something of a powerhouse between the 1930s and 60s. From 1931 to 1941, head coach Wallace Wade led the Blue Devils six Southern Conference championships and two Rose Bowl appearances. Head coach Eddie Cameron followed Wade, winning three straight SoCon titles while Bill Murray (no relation to the actor) coached Duke to seven more conference titles between 1952 and 1962, most of which came after the Blue Devils joined the ACC and became one of the first football heavyweights in the new conference.

Dave Can Cut It

Of course, things fell apart quickly for Duke football after its 1962 ACC title. The Blue Devils have just one conference championship since then, winning the ACC crown in 1989 under Steve Spurrier. But when head coach David Cutcliffe took over in 2008, he proved to have the magic touch. After four years of losing and rebuilding, Cutcliffe got the Blue Devils to a bowl game in 2012 for just the second time since 1961. Duke was able to build on that success, going to a bowl in six of the next seven seasons. It was a long road for the Blue Devils just to become a respectable football program. But Cutcliffe was able to get them there, perhaps setting the stage for even bigger and better things in the years to come.
