More About The Denver Nuggets
The Denver Nuggets may not be a perennial front-runner of the NBA, but this venerable basketball team has deeper roots than you might think. In fact, the Nuggets predate the NBA by decades. Originally founded in 1948, the Nuggets were part of the National Basketball League before it was folded into the NBA in 1949. In fact, the Nuggets were one of the NBA’s charter teams! Well, at least until the team closed up shop the following year.
Pro basketball was non-existent in Denver for a couple of decades, but the sport returned to the Mile High City in 1967 when the Denver Larks were formed as part of the ABA. The team was renamed the Nuggets in 1974 and rejoined the NBA in 1976 when the ABA was absorbed into the league. This time, the Nuggets stuck around, and the rest is history.
