One of the Original Six, the Boston Bruins have one hell of a history that dates back to 1924 — nearly an entire century. Each of the NHL’s original teams has their own amazing story to tell, but the staggering legacy of the Bruins is enough to humble even the most passionate hockey fans. 

A Winning History, and a History of Winners

In the quarter of a century between 1942 and 1967 — known as the era of the Original Six — the Bruins brought the Stanley Cup home three times. More than a few old-time legends played for Boston during this time, including NHL greats like Dit Clapper, Eddie Shore, and Bobby Bauer.

Speaking of greats, no discussion of the Bruins would be complete without to Bobby Orr, one of the all-time leaders in defense. Orr’s natural talent and uncanny skating ability put him in a unique scoring position that left many forwards scratching their heads. Tallying 953 points over only 657 games before retiring early due to knee problems, Orr remains a Bruins luminary and an NHL legend to this day.

Every Silver Lining Has a Cloud

The end of the Orr era in the mid-70s also meant the end of a successful run for the Bruins, at least for a while. While the Stanley Cup would be out of reach for the near future, Boston was still a solid team — and they got even more powerful with the draft of Ray Bourque in 1979. He’d spend the next 17 years helping to drive the Bruins to the playoffs like clockwork thanks to his Orr-like ability to score while on defense.
