About Wilbur Theatre

Wilbur Theatre

The Wilbur Theatre is a performing arts venue in the Chinatown neighborhood of Boston, not far from downtown Boston. It’s one of the oldest such venues in Boston, originally opening in 1913. The Wilbur Theatre is used mainly for hosting comedy shows but can host live music as well. The theater was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980 and became a Boston Landmark in 1987. A full renovation was completed in 2008 to make the venue more modern, keeping it in excellent shape. As a result, it has been used by more than a dozen comedians for filming stand-up specials. At full capacity, Wilbur Theatre can hold up to 1,200 people.

Where are the Best Places to Sit at the Wilbur Theatre

Table seating in sections B and G or the Orchestra section are the best places for a comedy show at Wilbur Theatre. Keep in mind that this area is sometimes used as general admission with the tables taken out. Outside of those sections, the Mezzanine section provides the best possible view of the entire stage, although it’s best to find seats within the first few rows of the Mezzanine. The first couple of rows on the Balcony can also provide a good view and adequate legroom.

Tips for Visiting the Wilbur Theatre

Keep in mind that the Wilbur Theatre is located in a busy part of Boston, so give yourself plenty of time to arrive on time for a show. Parking is validated for those who park at the parking garage on Washington Street and go to a show at the Wilbur Theatre. However, public transportation is also encouraged. Also, the Wilbur Theatre is only a few blocks away from Boston Common and other attractions, making it easy to spend time visiting other landmarks before or after a show.

Food to Try at the Wilbur Theatre

The Wilbur Theatre has a full bar on all three levels of the venue, as well as a snack bar. However, the food options are limited to candy, chips, and other snacks. Fortunately, there are plenty of dining options within a short distance of the venue for guests to visit before or after a performance. A restaurant called The Gallery and Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery are closest in proximity to the venue. There are also brewpubs, pizza shops, and even Japanese and Thai restaurants located within walking distance of the Wilbur Theatre.
