About The Wiltern
The Wiltern
Situated on the corner of Wiltshire Boulevard and Western Avenue, the fabulous Art Deco masterpiece that is Wiltern Theatre has dominated the landscape for nearly a hundred years. Known affectionately simply as “The Wiltern,” this live venue (and the massive 12-story building it’s connected to) is an LA landmark and a piece of performance history.
The History of The Wiltern
Built in 1931 to serve as the first two floors of the Pellissier Building, the massive office structure that towers above the theater, The Wiltern was originally conceived as a vaudeville theater when it originally opened. Originally, it was known as the Warner Brothers Western Theater until it was renamed the Wiltern Theatre in the mid-30s. The venue would continue to provide a home for performances, renowned for its massive pipe organ, until the 1970s when it began to decline.
The Wiltern’s fortunes turned around in the 1980s, however, when it and the entire Pellissier Building were purchased and renovated extensively, with many of the Art Deco furnishings and fixtures being preserved or restored. Today The Wiltern is a premier live performance space that attracts top-tier talent from around the world.
