About Salt River Fields

Salt River Fields

Salt River Fields at Talking Stick, better known to fans as simply Salt River Fields, is a stadium complex located in Scottsdale suburbs of Phoenix, Arizona. With a capacity of around 11,000, it’s one of the premier spring training stadiums for Major League Baseball. It’s also the first to ever be both built on Native American land and owned by a Native American community, making it truly one-of-a-kind.

The History of Salt River Fields

Phoenix has been a hot location for MLB spring training facilities for a while now, and the impetus behind the building of Salt River Fields can be traced to this demand. The White Sox moved their spring training facilities there from Tuscon in 2009, prompting both the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies to seek out new digs as well. A major bidding war ensured, with the Salt River Pima–Maricopa Indian Community coming out on top. Construction was fast-tracked, with Salt River Fields opening in February of 2011, and the stadium has been earning accolades ever since.

What Makes Salt River Fields Events So Special?

Salt River Fields has been a runaway hit with fans and ballplayers alike since it opened. MLB Commissioner Bud Selig couldn’t stop raving about the facilities, which include party pavilions, luxury suites, a kid-friendly zone, huge practice facilities for both teams, and even a man-made lake stocked with tens of thousands of fish. This has made Salt River Fields the jewel of what’s been coined the “Cactus League” of spring training venues in and around Phoenix, making a game at this stadium a must-see event!
