About Rupp Arena

Rupp Arena

Rupp Arena at Central Bank Center, simply known as just Rupp Arena to fans, is a 20,500-seat multi-purpose arena set in the heart of Lexington, Kentucky. As part of the larger Central Bank Center, an 11-acre entertainment and shopping facility, Rupp Arena is one of the busiest venues in the region, hosting sports games, music concerts, conventions, and other events as well.

The History of Rupp Arena

Rupp Arena opened its doors for the first time in 1976. Named after the famous University of Kentucky basketball coach Adolph Rupp, the arena was at that time part of what was called the Lexington Center, which was owned and operated by the city. Naming rights were sold in January of 2020 to local banking company Central Bank, hence the name change. Yet at this point, most fans are much more comfortable just calling this venue Rupp Arena, and that’s unlikely to change any time soon!

Rupp Arena is great because it’s smack dab in the middle of a giant entertainment complex. Food, shopping, even hotel accommodations are all within walking distance. You can get anything you want and need, no matter why you’re there or what type of event you’re attending.
