The History of Rogers Place

Rogers Place was built to replace the Northlands Coliseum which opened back in 1974. It was at Rogers Place that the Edmonton Oil Kings took on the Red Deer Rebels as the first game to ever be played at the stadium. Before the game, a statue of Wayne Gretzky and Mark Messier was unveiled which is today situated outside the arena as a tribute to the great hockey players of the NHL.

At Rogers Place, fans can attend pro hockey games as well as WHL’s events. Many famous singers have performed at Rogers Place including Elton John, the Who, Fleetwood Mac, Ghost and others.
