About Radio City Music Hall

Radio City Music Hall

Is there any New York City venue more famous than Radio City Music Hall? Probably not. Known as the home of the Rockettes and their annual Christmas special, Radio City is Manhattan’s most well-known concert and event stage. Located in Midtown in the vibrant and always-bustling Rockefeller Center and known for its iconic art deco design and brilliant neon marquee, Radio City Music Hall is one venue you simply can’t miss.

The History of Radio City Music Hall

Radio City’s story begins back in the 1930s. After a long planning and funding process involving the input of John D. Rockefeller Jr., the theater opened up in 1932… and immediately flopped! Showrunners scrambled and created a winning combination of presentations soon afterward, and Radio City bounced back quickly to become the premier venue for both feature films and stage spectaculars for decades to come.

The economic turmoil of the 1970s almost ended Radio City. Plans had been drawn up to demolish the venue and replace it with an office building, but a massive protest, led by the Rockettes of all people, helped get Radio City declared a National Landmark. This swung the pendulum back towards success, and Radio City Music Hall bounced back to where it is today: a world-famous concert and event space that shows no signs of slowing down any time soon.

What Makes Radio City Music Hall Events So Special?
