About MetLife Stadium
MetLife Stadium
There are lots of famous football stadiums, both in and out of the NFL. The Rose Bowl, Soldier Field, Lambeau Field – the list goes on and on. But there’s only one stadium in the NFL that stands apart. One stadium shared by two NFL teams; one stadium built not in the state that bears their names but just across the border in a neighboring state instead. We’re talking, of course, of none other than the enigma that is MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
The History of MetLife Stadium
Once upon a time, the New York Giants had their own stadium in New Jersey. Giants Stadium, not-so-affectionately referred to as “the Swamp”, was beginning to show its age, though, and after 3 decades of hosting both the Giants and the New York Jets, it was time for a new stadium.
Originally, the Giants were going to get a stadium on Manhattan’s West Side, but the owners of Madison Square Garden decided to run them out of town because they didn’t want the competition. The Giants took their ball and went home to Jersey, going in 50/50 with the New York Jets and settling on the design of the new stadium. It opened its doors in 2010 and both teams haven’t looked back.
What Makes MetLife Stadium so Special?
You mean besides the fact it’s the only NFL stadium to host two teams? And that those two teams play in a stadium that’s not even in their state? MetLife Stadium has a lot that makes it unique. Its construction is so environmentally friendly that the EPA called it the Greenest Stadium in the NFL during its construction. It got Venue of the Year in 2017 as well, awarded by the Stadium Business Summit. Whether you’re there for a football game, a concert, or some other bananas event like WrestleMania, MetLife Stadium has almost too much to offer!
