About Gershwin Theatre

Gershwin Theatre

The Gershwin Theatre is a Broadway theater located in Midtown Manhattan that can be found inside the Paramount Plaza office building. The venue originally opened in 1972 when it was known as the Uris Theatre. Over the years, it has hosted many high-profile Broadway shows and musicals, including The King and I, Sweeney Todd, Starlight Express, Wicked, and dozens of others. The Gershwin Theatre has also been used to host the Tony Awards on multiple occasions and is also capable of hosting concerts and dance companies. With a total of 1,933 seats, the Gershwin Theatre is the largest venue on Broadway.

Where are the Best Places to Sit at the Gershwin Theatre

The best place to sit during a performance at the Gershwin Theatre is in the center of the Orchestra section, specifically rows BB-M. These seats will be close to the stage and have a direct view of the performance. The next best place to sit is in the first five rows of the front Mezzanine, which also has a direct view of the stage but from a slightly higher elevation.

Tips for Visiting the Gershwin Theatre

Before buying tickets for a show at the Gershwin Theatre, know that children five years and younger are not allowed in. Kids older than five years must also have a ticket. It’s also important to arrive early, especially if you are sitting in the Orchestra section, as you may not be allowed to get to your seat if you arrive late. Of course, arriving early is always a good idea at the Gershwin Theatre. Arriving early means having an opportunity to check out the two rotundas in the theater, as well as the American Theater Hall of Fame, which is located within the same complex as the Gershwin Theatre.
