About FirstBank Stadium

Vanderbilt Stadium

Owned and operated by Vanderbilt University, one of the most well-respected private colleges in the South, Vanderbilt Stadium is located in Nashville, Tennessee. This venerable and venerated open-air football stadium has been showcasing outstanding collegiate sports for nearly an entire century and shows no signs of stopping any time soon!

History of Vanderbilt Stadium

Built in 1922, Vanderbilt Stadium was constructed next to Old Dudley Field, where the school had already been holding football games for close to 30 years. Known as New Dudley Field at the time of its opening, it had space for a massive 20,000 fans, dwarfing the venues of other Southern colleges at the time. Over time, there would be several improvements and additional expansions to the stadium, eventually increasing capacity to more than 40,000. The most major one occurring in the 1980s when the original bandstands were destroyed and reconstructed. The new venue was then referred to as Vanderbilt Stadium, though the football field in the center still retains its Dudley Field moniker to this day.

What Makes Vanderbilt Stadium Events So Special?

Vanderbilt Stadium is one of the smallest collegiate football stadiums out there with just 40,000 seats. This provides a more intimate feeling than one of those massive 80,000-seat venues, a unique experience to be sure and one not to be missed!
