About CIBC Theatre

CIBC Theatre

CIBC Theatre is a small performance venue in downtown Chicago, not far from both Millennium Park and Grant Park. The theater first opened in 1906 and is currently run by the production company Broadway in Chicago. CIBC Theatre has many modern amenities following a 2006 restoration project. However, the building still retains its original fixtures and the charm it had when it first opened in 1906. It continues to host shows on an almost daily basis, including some world premiers and many well-known Broadway shows.

Where are the Best Places to Sit at CIBC Theatre

The roughly 1800 seats in CIBC Theatre are divided into four sections. Seats in the Orchestra Section will get you the closest to the stage. However, seats close to the outside aisles aren’t always able to see the entire stage. The second level up is the Dress Circle. Seats in the first few rows and the middle of the Dress Circle Section can be among the best seats available outside of the Orchestra Section. With tickets in the Mezzanine and Balcony, you will be further away from the stage, so getting a seat within the first few rows should be a priority, more so than avoiding the aisles.

Tips for Visiting CIBC Theatre

If you end up sitting in the Balcony at CIBC Theatre, be prepared for a somewhat long walk up some steep stairs. It wouldn’t hurt to arrive a few minutes earlier than expected because the walk can be a little challenging and time-consuming for some people. The building does have an elevator, although it can be slow delivering people to various floors. It’s also worth noting that there aren’t bathrooms on every level, so you may need to use the stairs before the show or during intermission to get to the closest bathroom.

Foods to Try at CIBC Theatre

There are limited food options at CIBC Theatre outside of small snack stands that offer beverages and small pies, among other items. However, there is no shortage of quality restaurants within walking distance of the theater to visit either before or after the show. The CIBC Theatre partners with many of the restaurants to offer discounts or free items for those with tickets to a show.
